About the Prize
The annual GEA Publication Prize is for the best early career publication (book chapter, journal article or book – monograph) within the field of gender and education. Early career for the purpose of this award is any publication that was published within 5 years of PhD completion (mitigations can be considered) or during the writing of the PhD (if not yet completed).
The Gender and Education Association have established this prize to support and encourage the next generation of academics. The prize aims to recognise, support and give credit to the work of early career academics whose scholarship is on issues related to gender and education. It has been established in 2026 in recognition of the commitment to gender and education as a field and the regressive, hostile global environment that academics/advocates of gender progression and trans inclusivity now find themselves working within.
GEA welcomes entries from early career academics from around the world and whose work spans a range of disciplines and specialisms. As this is an opportunity for early career researchers, as part of the application you are asked to express why you should be considered an early career researcher.
The winner of the Gender and Education Publication Prize will be announced at GEA’s annual conference in 2026 which is being held at the Auckland University of Technology, Aotearoa New Zealand.
